While pursuing a postgraduate study in Public Health Education and Promotion, she learned about alternative Medicine. It was then that she found the passion for Hollistic medicine and a growing interest in natural health care which prompted her to pursue a career in naturopathic Medicine. In 2001, she earned her Doctorate degree in Naturopathic Medicine from the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon (NCNM). NCNM is one of only 5, accredited, Naturopathic Medical schools in the United States whose graduates are eligible for licensure in those states which regulate Naturopathic medicine. Approach and Style
Realizing that unlike Conventional healthcare, Natural medicine is not a band-aid solution
Dr. Talebi works with individuals who are determined to accomplish their optimal well-being. Though she takes her role as an educator very seriously, her belief is that it is the patient who will ultimately need to make the necessary life-style changes. She is adamant in involving the patient with every step of their care and her success is commensurate with the level of Commitment and personalization that she affords to every patient.
A core principle of her practice which is based on Functional Medicine is to find the underlying cause of a disease through looking at the body's physiology. This is done through comprehensive lab work. While, lab work are commonly performed at an allopathic physicians office, often the information obtained are considered within normal ranges. This is because labratories use ranges based on sick and unhealthy individuals so a person is only notified when their results are in pathological ranges; meaning they have already developed a serious disease. Thus why a person may have various lab work done with normal results but don't feel normal.
As a result they are dismissed with the implication that the symptoms are just in their head. This is like dealing with a catastrophe instead of picking up the signs before it happens. This crisis disease management mind set has brought about many pharmaceutical drugs which treat this level of disease only. Many of these drugs are not without side effects. These side effects, in turn, warrant prescription of other drugs to mask these new symptoms and it just becomes a vicious cycle. Dr. Talebi's practice and area of expertise is focused on preventing these diseases before they get to crisis level.
When she is not helping her patients, Dr. Talebi's passion and interests include reading, traveling and spending quality time with her three boys. She has organized and taught character education classes to children as well as involving her whole family to give back to the community including service projects with helping out at the food bank, neighborhood clean up projects, and Summer Book Reading programs in the local park.
